True Stories of Pediatric Care

As a parent, there are few things as frightening as having a seriously ill child and feeling powerless to help. That’s why the partnership between Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center and Lowell General Hospital means so much to area families.

We asked a few area moms to share stories about the illnesses their children went through and how Floating Hospital for Children pediatricians and pediatric specialists helped deliver the highest quality care, right here close to home.

Alcinda

Alcinda’s son Cameron was born prematurely, diagnosed with hypothroidism and has had multiple complications requiring many pediatric specialists on an ongoing basis. Alcinda and her husband are able to continue receiving world-class pediatric specialty care at Lowell General Hospital’s Pediatric Specialty Center in Chelmsford, where Cameron can see specialists from Floating Hospital for Children – without the drive into Boston.

Dawn’s son Dylan was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis at only 18 months old. After many trips back and forth to Boston to see specialists at Floating Hospital for Children, Dawn and her husband are now able to follow up with Floating Hospital for Children specialists at Lowell General Hospital’s Pediatric Specialty Center in Chelmsford, close to their home. Today, Dylan is a happy 11-year old!

When Ally’s triplets were born prematurely at Tufts Medical Center, they spent five days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Floating Hospital for Children in Boston and then transported to the Special Care Nursery at Lowell General Hospital until they were healthy enough to go home. The relationship between Lowell General and Floating Hospital for Children made the transfer as smooth as possible. Thankfully, Lowell General Hospital’s Pediatric Specialty Center in Chelmsford is close by and Ally and her husband can access the highest-level pediatric specialty care should they ever need it.
